A wild and moody Isle of Skye elopement with a sweet and adventurous couple. This is why I absolutely love being a Scottish Elopement Photographer. Days like these, spent with fun couples in amazing locations! James and Michelle flew in from Singapore for their Isle of Skye elopement and decided to stay at some sweet accommodation in Uig, near the famous Fairy Glen.

We all met in Portree the day before for a little food and spent some time getting to know each other in person. We also shot some pre-wedding images around the harbour area with views out to the Cuillin mountains. It was a bluebird sunny day with a wonderful sunset, which couldn’t have been more different to the following morning as Skye delivered us some of its finest rain and wind…
The Fairy Glen
After some relaxed morning preparations for James and Michelle we headed for the Fairy Glen. Here we spent a little time running around the fern, watching waterfalls and spotting sheep! We then gathered together in the lee of the wind and held a ceremonial exchange of rings. With lot of hugs and laughter and a chance to marvel at this enchanted wee place, it was a beautiful few moments.
A heavy downpour saw us running to the car though and we soon departed for the Quiraing. First though, a stop off at the Skye Brewing Company. Both James and Michelle are craft beer aficionados so any chance to sample some local ale and they were 100% all in! We headed to the brewery shop and all picked up a few bottles of some of the islands finest Amber nectar! (Skye Blonde is now a firm favourite!)
The Old Man of Storr
Both James and Michelle were keen to make the hike up to the Old man of Storr, a famous volcanic pinnacle on the East of the Island. The walk is around 30 minutes but as we arrived the rain was torrential, we waited to see if it would abate but it kept lashing on down as we hid in the car. After about 15 minutes we made a decision to go for it regardless!
And off we went, hiking into the howling gales and sideways rain.
I was absolutely loving being in amongst the elements but I was worried for James and Michelle, as I looked back to check though all I could see were smiling faces. All good! Let’s move on.
We arrived at the Storr and wandered in amongst the amazing rock formations. James and Michelle then went full scramble mode and climbed a neighbouring stack! They found an elevated position and as they reached the top of this, the rain stopped.
A gentle shimmer of light appeared as the Sun tried to break through the cloud and it suddenly felt like all the battling through the rain earlier had been worth it. We were being rewarded.
We then were treated to some amazing views as the Sun bounced off the wet rock and lit up the surrounding crags.
The place was silent, with nobody else around, wonderful! It was pretty sweet to watch them up there together between those mighty spires. Two lovers immersed in that rugged and majestic landscape, together, alone. An epic Scottish love story filled with a bit of everything. Im so grateful to James and Michelle for being such adventurous souls and that they put their trust in me to capture their Isle of Skye Elopement.
If you are looking for a Scottish Elopement photographer or need some advice/ideas for eloping in Scotland, I would love to hear from you!
Great pictures as usual Sean, particularly at the Storr.
Thanks so much Neil, really appreciate that! I guess it was worth battling the elements and heading to the Storr then. Really looking forward to being back up there for more windswept highland elopements. No doubt you and Tanni are too!? Take care.
Love the mood and stunning location Kudos for braving the weather, it was worth it! Well done!
Hey Christophe! Thanks man, means a lot, really appreciate the kind words. We have to brave the weather quite a bit here in Scotland, the ‘all in/go for it’ approach usually works out best..
